A 38-year-old Melbourne woman was killed, and a 9-year-old girl was injured Saturday morning when their vehicle overturned along Interstate 95 in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:43 am near mile marker 271, south of U.S. 1.

FHP said the woman was driving a 2007 Scion tC northbound in the outside lane of I-95. A witness told investigators the driver moved into the center lane and then overcorrected to the right.

The car traveled off the right side of the highway and overturned in a wooded area, according to the crash report.

The driver was transported to AdventHealth Daytona Beach, where she was pronounced dead. FHP reported that she was not wearing a seat belt.

The 9-year-old passenger, also from Melbourne, was wearing a seat belt. She was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital with injuries described in the report’s narrative as non-life-threatening.

FHP did not identify the driver or passenger or describe their relationship.

The crash remains under investigation.
