Updating Breaking News: Tanker truck bursts into flames after fatal two-vehicle crash in Hillsborough County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Hillsborough County this morning that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 2:42 am this morning, a sedan driven by a 23-year-old Ruskin man, and a tanker truck driven by a 49-year-old Montgomery (Alabama) man were traveling southbound in the outside lane of US-41, north of Bloomingdale Avenue.

As they approached, the sedan overtook and collided with the rear of the tanker truck, which was full of gasoline, and exploded and traveled to the shoulder of the roadway where the vehicle struck a utility pole before coming to final rest.

After the crash, the sedan traveled to the shoulder and overturned. The tanker truck driver suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. The driver of the sedan suffered serious injuries, according to the report.

The FHP did not release the names of either driver.
