Breaking Morning News: Wrong-way driver dies after head-on collision in Orange County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash this morning in Orange County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 4:35 am, a 2021 Nissan Altima driven by a 32-year-old Davenport woman was traveling west (the wrong way) in the eastbound center lane on Interstate 4 approaching Lee Road.

At the same time, a 2019 Kia Optima driven by a 50-year-old Orlando woman was traveling eastbound on I-4 approaching Lee Road in the center lane.

As they approached, the two vehicles collided head-on.

The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the drivers' names involved in the crash.
