Breaking News Overnight: 17-year-old dies after a single-vehicle collision in Volusia County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision last night in Volusia County that resulted in the death of the driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 10:02 pm, a 2001 Lexus driven by a 17-year-old male Sanford resident was traveling eastbound on Reed Ellis Road approaching the intersection of State Road 415.

According to the FHP report, the driver was traveling above the posted speed limit and lost control of the vehicle. As a result, he ran off the roadway and collided with a tree.

The driver was transported to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital and later pronounced deceased.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the name of the driver.
