Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a six-vehicle collision yesterday in Brevard County that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 6:42 pm, a 2017 Box Truck driven by a 26-year-old Melbourne man was traveling southbound on Hollywood Boulevard approaching the intersection of Eber Boulevard.
At the same time, a 2021 Porsche Taycan driven by a 67-year-old Melbourne Beach woman was traveling eastbound on Eber Boulevard, approaching the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard.
At the same time, a 2022 Mazda 3, a 2016 Honda Odyssey, a 2019 Ford Escape, and a 2011 Toyota Camry were stopped in the northbound lane on Hollywood Boulevard at the intersection of Eber Boulevard.
As it approached, the first vehicle ran the red light and entered the direct path of the second vehicle. They collided, causing the first vehicle to overturn, strike the raised concrete curb, and finally coming to rest in a grassy ditch.
The first vehicle's overturning set debris into motion, striking the sixth vehicle's windshield. The impact also pushed the second vehicle into the third and fourth, striking the fifth vehicle before coming to rest.
The driver of the second vehicle was transported to Holmes Regional Hospital and later pronounced deceased.
Prior to the collision, the driver of the first vehicle was actively fleeing from a previous hit-and-run crash that the West Melbourne Police Department is investigating. The driver was admitted to a hospital with serious injuries. Charges are pending.
Two others reported minor injuries to the FHP, according to the report.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the crash.
