Updating Breaking News: Pedestrian hit and killed by SUV in Brevard County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision yesterday in Brevard County that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 6:05 am, a 2017 Kia Sorrento driven by a 59-year-old Cocoa man was traveling northbound on US-1 (North Cocoa Boulevard), approaching MacArthur Circle in the inside lane. Witnesses advised that a 43-year-old Cocoa man was standing within the inside lane in the direct path of the vehicle. 

As he approached, the driver attempted to swerve to avoid hitting the pedestrian but collided with him. The SUV then ran off the roadway. The driver reported no injuries to the FHP. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the crash scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the name of the driver or the pedestrian involved in the collision.
