Breaking Morning News: Driver dies after a two-vehicle collision in Columbia County

Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash in Columbia County this morning that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 6:55 am, a sedan driven by a 26-year-old Port St. Lucie man was traveling south on Interstate 75 near the 437-mile marker.

At the same time, a Semi truck and trailer driven by a 37-year-old Miami man was stopped on the right paved emergency shoulder with mechanical problems.

As it approached, the first vehicle attempted to pass other traffic by driving onto the emergency shoulder. This caused the front of the vehicle to strike the trailer of the second vehicle.

After the collision, the first vehicle rotated clockwise, coming to a final rest across the left and center lanes of the interstate.

The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced deceased on the scene. The second vehicle driver reported no injuries to the FHP.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the collision.

This is an update of breaking news and may be updated if more details are known.
