Two Cross City men were killed Thursday afternoon when their sedan entered the path of a tractor-trailer at a Gilchrist County intersection, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:15 pm at U.S. Highway 129 and County Road 340.
According to FHP’s preliminary investigation, the sedan was traveling east on County Road 340 when its driver failed to yield at a stop sign. The vehicle entered the path of a tractor-trailer traveling north on U.S. 129, resulting in a collision.
The sedan’s 27-year-old driver and 36-year-old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Both men were from Cross City.
The tractor-trailer driver, a 58-year-old Lake City man, was not injured.
FHP said both occupants of the sedan and the tractor-trailer driver were wearing seat belts.
