A 24-year-old Deltona man suffered serious injuries Friday morning after the truck he was driving overturned on Interstate 95 in St. Johns County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:30 am on northbound I-95 near mile marker 322.

FHP said the driver was operating a four-axle multi-purpose straight truck loaded with gravel and powdery marcite when he lost control while traveling in the right lane. The truck veered into the center median and overturned onto a metal guardrail.

The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville for treatment. Troopers did not immediately release additional information about the cause of the crash or the driver's condition.

A Toyota van traveling northbound was struck by tire debris from the overturned truck, according to the FHP report. The van was driven by a 62-year-old Sanford man and also carried a 64-year-old Sanford woman and a 27-year-old DeBary woman. None of the occupants suffered injuries.

The overturned truck temporarily disrupted traffic along one of Northeast Florida's busiest corridors as emergency crews responded to the scene and cleared the wreckage.

By late Friday morning, all northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 95 had reopened. The Florida Highway Patrol advised motorists that traffic remained heavy in the area and urged drivers to use caution while traveling through the corridor.
